How we handle your information

Play Local Charlotte is a parent-built playground map. This is the short version of what we collect and why. Last updated August 14, 2026.

What we collect

  • Account: email, first and last name, and (if you use Google) your Google name and photo.
  • What you post: park notes, community posts, photos you upload, and amenity votes.
  • Profile extras you choose: bio, neighborhood, whether to show your photo, and whether you want occasional email updates.
  • Location: only if you tap “Use my location,” and only on your device to sort nearby parks. We don’t store a live location trail.

What stays public

Notes, votes, and community posts help other parents. Display names show as First L. You can hide your Google photo on your profile. Please don’t post kids’ names or close-up photos of children.

Email

We use your email for sign-in and password reset. Optional playground updates only go out if you check that box (you can turn it off on your profile). Account emails may also be stored with our email provider (Brevo) so we can reach parents who use the app.

Cookies and analytics

Signing in uses a session cookie. Anonymous amenity votes use a small voter cookie so the same browser isn’t counted twice. Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights help us see what pages load, not a personal advertising profile.

Who helps run it

Hosting is on Vercel. Accounts and data live in Supabase. Maps use OpenStreetMap by default (optional Google Maps if a key is configured). Google is used if you sign in with Google.

Questions or deletion
